Formerly KF4LER Cecil Redditt AF4KN could
be classified as the get things done
ham of Collierville. When I moved to Collierville a couple years ago it
was
heartbreaking to take down my tower and I wondered if I would ever get it back
up. After spending
weeks digging a hole for the concrete and pumping out the
water out several times it looked like I would never
get the help necessary to
coordinate with the cement delivery enter Cecil. On the day of delivery he is
on site with a friend and the expertise to mix the concrete just to the right
viscosity every thing went great
and in less than thirty minutes the three
yards of concrete had been wheelbarrow into position. After a few days
the
concrete had set and Cecil is back with a tall ladder helping to get up the
first sections soon
after he has rounded up a crew of very helpful hams and on
New Years Day my tower and antenna are back in operation.
Quite often the short winded net is caught without a control operator enter
Cecil
calling everyone by name and conducting the net as only Cecil can. May
be the lack of volunteers is due to the
fact we enjoy him so much and of
course Cecil is always at work soliciting callers for the next month. <br>
A volunteer fireman, engineer and other services you can always identify
Cecil`s truck
with a record number of antennas on it I think at last count it
was about nine. If you call him chances he will
have to get off another radio
to answer you.
Cecil is indeed a very busy man going out
of town often on long trips for his
company, going over to Arkansas to work on his property but always seems
to be
able to find time to help fellow hams whether its putting up an antenna or
fixing a lawn mower.
I am afraid the web wage page cannot hold all the good things we could say
about Cecil. I have
watched him go from Tech to extra since I have been in
Collierville while at the same time being involved in
all sorts of ham
activity. So I will just close by saying that I think all the hams know what a
great expediter and friend we have in Cecil and we would have a hard time
without him.
